HOW LONG WILL MY APPOINTMENT BE?

Your appointment length may vary depending on the nature of the visit. Most physician consultations are roughly 30 minutes. If prescribed, you will also see a patient educator which could be up to 20 minutes. Follow up appointments are generally significantly shorter. We recommend allowing between 1 hour to 1 ½ hours for your appointment.

HOW LONG WILL MY PATIENT WAIT FOR AN APPOINTMENT?

Wait times vary from location to location depending on referral volume and physician availability. If there is a reason your patient needs to see us more urgently, please call us at 888-282-7763.

HOW WILL I BE INFORMED OF MY PATIENT’S TREATMENT AND PROGRESS?

The physicians and cannabinoid educators at CMClinic are your partners in providing effective care to your patients. We maintain an open dialogue with the referring physician. Following your patient’s appointment at the clinic, we will send you a Consultation Letter, containing information on the prescription written, dosage recommended, and duration of use. CMClinic network works collaboratively with you to ensure the patient receives the best comprehensive care possible.

WHAT INFORMATION DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME TO THE MEDICAL APPOINTMENT?

At your first visit please bring the following:
  • A valid provincial health card
  • A pharmacy report of all current and past medications (required in the case of a self-referral only)
If you have any additional documentation in your possession that would help the physician with your medical history, we encourage you to bring them to your appointment (for example, x-rays, CT Scans, MRI reports and letters from your specialists)

HOW MUCH DOES MY PATIENT HAVE TO PAY FOR AN APPOINTMENT?

There is no fee to see a physician for a cannabinoid therapy consult in our network, although we do require a referral from a family physician or specialist. With their initial visit your patient will receive a consultation with a physician, as well as a free introductory education session with one of our trained  educators. Patients should never pay for a Medical Authorization document for medical cannabis.

HOW LONG AFTER SEEING A DOCTOR WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY MEDICAL CANNABIS?

This will depend on a number of factors, including the current volume of referrals at your selected Licensed Producer. Traditionally, it can take anywhere from 1 to 7 business days to fully process your registration.  Once registration is confirmed, and you order the product, you can receive the product as early as 1-3 days after ordering.

WHAT DOES THE MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION DOCUMENT COVER?

The Medical Authorization document covers basic information such as the daily amount(s) or recommended doses, the duration of the authorization and any restrictions on the type of cannabis to be used. In this regard, it is similar to a prescription. A sample Medical Authorization document can be accessed on Health Canada’s website.

WHAT IS MEDICAL CANNABIS?

Medical cannabis, also sometimes called “medical cannabis”, refers to the range of products derived from the whole cannabis plant or its extracts.  These products contain a variety of active cannabinoids and terpenes, that patients take for medical reasons, after obtaining authorization from a health care practitioner. There are different types of cannabis plants including: Indica, Sativa and a range of hybrid mixes.  Within these plant types there are specific cultivars or “strains” each with a unique profile. All cannabis used for medical treatments contain several complex compounds, the most notable of which are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD).

HOW DOES A PATIENT PURCHASE MEDICAL CANNABIS?

The Cannabis Act now governs regulations from Health Canada for growing, buying and selling all forms of cannabis in Canada. It outlines a system for doctors, patients and large-scale commercial growers. These growers are called Licensed Producers. Under the regulations, healthcare providers are the only individuals legally able to authorize medical cannabis used by patients. A physician will provide the patient with a Medical Authorization document, indicating the condition being treated, the recommended dosage and the duration of the authorization to procure and use cannabis. To obtain access to medical marijuana, patients must send their Medical Authorization document to a Licensed Producer, who will then send the filled prescription to the patient via mail or bonded courier. No medical cannabis is available on-site at clinics in our network.
